Hai guys! Time for a new blog, and this one’s actually on time (yay!). Firstly, I’m hoping you’ll join me in extending a warm welcome to the latest addition of our W50 Blog Team – Notoriety*. Anyone that knows him will tell you that he’s got a talent for statistics and in-depth reviews (something this blog was lacking before). So welcome, Notoriety*, we’re glad to have you with us.
As always, MM brings you plenty to read. JPEG grabs the spotlight this week, where we take a look back at what kind of tribe they were in the past and what can be expected of their former members in the future. This is followed by an article covering the official end of the CBears tribe, as well as all the other regular weekly features that you should be used to by now. Enjoy!
JPEG – Faded Pictures
To those of us that have been playing this world from the very beginning (or at least for the past couple of months), the name JPEG is very much familiar. Not only were they a top tribe for a very long time, their location on the map had always stood out, drawing attention to them as a tribe. They were situated solely in K55, and for months predictions of gang bangs had been flying around on the externals. And yet, they had managed to come a really long way and were even voted by many as the most promising tribe in this world. So what happened? I caught up with Amanda and Kevin, the former leaders of the tribe, to find out more.
JPEG did not start out as a premade, but they grew to become closer than many of their competitors on this world. They recruited smartly, and then went on to dominate their K entirely. Being boxed in by other top tribes was always an issue, but it seems that through smart diplomatic ties they had managed to eradicate the possibility of a gang bang. The dukes tell me that things were going well for the tribe. Spirits were high, comradery amongst the members was also outstanding. Alas, all good things must come to an end.
As had been predicted by most external posters, JPEG needed room to break out and expand. The tribe chose to expand further down South, taking on two monster tribes at once. The former leaders admit that they did indeed bite off more than they could chew.
The biggest mistake we made was in trying to get out of K55 by taking on two bigger tribes – ORPHAN and DIY, which as we all know, become [END] and HUG. The way we were playing and the ground that we were making especially in K56… If we had just concentrated on one tribe then things would have been different. Very different. - Hot Sheep (former leadership of JPEG)
I was informed that the tribe had planned an operation that was focused solely on one HUG player. The plan was to have all nobles of the tribe land around the same time on all the villages of the player, causing them to be instantly rimmed. The operation failed, and player morale dropped drastically.
Around this time, [END] was rising as a tribe and Astronomy was out and about, recruiting all the best players in the area. He approached several JPEG members, inviting them to the tribe. They all refused the invite initially. They were then informed that both HUG and [END] were planning a retaliation op on the members of JPEG in the near future.
We could be part of the plan or be the plan, our choice. With the mood of the tribe being a little down, we knew that it was only a matter of time before the tribe imploded. I had to really work hard to persuade Amanda (The HOT Sheep account is co-played) that if we wanted to stay on this world then we had to change tribes. It took a week. – Kevin
JPEG disbanded on the 16th of September 2010. Most of the members moved to [END]. A few went to HUG. I’ve been told that the members are adjusting well in their new tribes. “No complaints,” is what the former leaders had to say.
Despite their fall from grace, JPEG were around for quite some time. They could have recruited outside of their K, and they could have done a lot of things differently. The way they existed was unique in its own way, and I believe they deserved a proper good bye in the form of this article. They had always kept to themselves, with very little forum presence, so I believe it’s good that they have this article to help them leave a permanent trace on this world. One of their former leaders had this to say as a parting message:
JPEG will be in my heart. I did not like what we did, but something needed to be done. I miss you guys already. - Amanda Q
JPEG was initially led by Methodical Destruction, who quit W50 a while back due to RL obligations. I managed to grab an interview with him earlier this week. Click the ‘Show’ button in the grey box below to access the piece.

SelectShow> |
FrailBeauty: Hey there, Methodical Destruction. Thanks for agreeing to do this interview. You are the former duke of JPEG, correct? How long did you lead the tribe for?
Methodical Destruction: Correct, I was handed the leadership of JPEG about 2 weeks into the world and carried on as duke until early to mid-august.
FrailBeauty: What was the reason behind you leaving, if you don’t mind sharing?
Methodical Destruction: Poor timing. As is usually the case, a lot of real life events hit me all at the same time and at first nothing really seemed to be an issue but then I realized I was finding it very hard to get even a few minutes per day to jump on the computer. I don’t like playing the game half-heartedly, so I figured it would be best to move on altogether.
FrailBeauty: So I take it you’ve heard about the disbanding of JPEG. What was your initial reaction to this? Were you surprised?
Methodical Destruction: Yes I’ve heard the news. Initially I was surprised by it because we had so many members who were so loyal to not only the leadership but each other. This was not a premade to any extent, yet the way the players all got along in-game and in our Skype chats etc. made you think they had been friends for ages. I think in the end having a war front is stressful for everyone involved and it ultimately got the better of the tribe. So no, it isn’t a surprise to see one side disband. Just a shame it had to be JPEG.
FrailBeauty: What was your favourite thing about being the duke of JPEG?
Methodical Destruction: My favorite part of being the duke of JPEG was just getting back to the basics of the game. So much of it had become political and I’d found the game to be losing the charm it once had so many worlds ago. With JPEG we just became a group of friends having a good time, playing a game. There wasn’t a whole lot of ego in our tribe and nobody cared about stats. It was really quite refreshing.
FrailBeauty: Do you think you’ll ever return to W50 to play alongside your former tribemates?
Methodical Destruction: It’s not very likely. If I had more free time than I do right now and there was a place for me, I would consider a co-playing role or filling an account temporarily. But for now I’m done with world 50.
FrailBeauty: Being a leader of one of the top W50 tribes for such a long time, surely you had more insight when it came to the other top tribes of the world. Which tribes do you think will do well and stick around for a long time to come?
Methodical Destruction: I always thought CBears would be kings of the foreseeable future. I figured their spread was a little thin but thought smart diplomacy could help them until they consolidated. With that no longer looking like the case, I’ve got to say [END] are in a very nice position to do some damage long term. If I had to pick a favorite at the moment that’s who I’d be betting on. Most of their players are tested to some extent now and they should have enough chemistry to keep from imploding.
FrailBeauty: Do you think that we’ll ever see JPEG as a premade on a future world, or is that something that hasn’t really been considered at this point?
Methodical Destruction: I haven’t considered it yet. If I were to ever make a premade there are definitely members of JPEG that would be involved.
FrailBeauty: Is there anything you’d like to let your former JPEG tribemates and the rest of the world know before we end this?
Methodical Destruction: I would like to give a quick thanks to Leverage for stepping up in my absence as well as Hot Sheep for their hard work over the course of the world it was greatly appreciated. To everyone else, good luck and happy hunting.

Oh How the Mighty Have Fallen
CBears No More

The council of CBears released an Official Statement yesterday, announcing the end of the tribe. At this point in time I do not believe a lengthy article is necessary when it comes to this matter. It’s all been said before. First in the CBears vs HUG article, then in Social’s Departure Thread, and now in their last official statement.
The Bears held the top spot on this world by a wide margin for a really long time. However, they have always been ridiculed for their methods, and generally disliked by many. There is no use denying that internal issues were the main cause of the split. If anything, we can say that the fall of CBears has provided the world with quite a few valuable lessons:
DON’T recruit players all over the world based on rankings alone.
DON’T tick off all the neighbouring tribes that surround you, causing diplomatic tensions on every side.
DON’T expect high rankings to be an indication of players’ interest/capability in war.
DON’T expect all your new recruits to be loyal to you.
Since the tribe has not physically disbanded yet, they will still be included in the statistical sections of this blog. Below is a list of milestones achieved by the tribe.
Farewell, CBears.

War Thread.
This war appears to be one of the more “interesting” ones currently taking place on this world; it’s certainly attracting a lot of public attention, appearing to be one of the most frequently posted in topics since the time of declaration.
The PnP itself is in my opinion very mediocre. The use of “google pics” really adds nothing to the PnP piece itself, nor does showing one report of a nuke that actually isn’t that embarrassing – and trying to portray it as such. Simply, it appears that the report used was that of a HC-Offense village, which are actually fairly common nowadays. Trying to use that as a means to “humiliate” your opponents is poor judgment.
Prior to the war, it appeared that ~HELL~ had a “head-start”, having performed fairly well against [END]. [END]‘s reasoning for this is that they were dealing with other tribes at the time, while ~HELL~ were only nobling one [END] player – which is fair enough. Since the declaration, as is rather clear, [END] have stepped up their game and are leading at a ratio of approximately 3:1. Although this isn’t anything that will kill ~HELL~ in itself, internal issues which do exist (as was made clear in the opening post) may very well be something that could be a fatal flaw in ~HELL~.
That being said, [END]‘s performance to date is nothing spectacular. Three days into the war and nobling approximately 11 ~HELL~ villages a day isn’t that amazing when you have 2x the members, 5x the points and 5x the villages of your opponent. Really, anything less would be quite poor.
The posts throughout the topic seem to (unfortunately) be what is the norm nowadays in War Declaration topics. It is essentially pointless argument after pointless argument. However, it seems strange to me that Astronomy (leader of [END]) thought it wise to contradict his member (Lee Walton) in regards to a few issues – making Lee’s arguments from then on seem far less believable. That being said, it does add credit to Astronomy’s future arguments as he’ll be seen as someone who can be “objective” and honest.
Anyway, [END] dominate 8 continents, ~HELL~ dominate 1. Although I’m not sure if ~HELL~ will “crumble within days” as claimed in the opening post of the War Declaration – in fact, it’s already been 3 days. I do feel that all the statistics do favour [END], and unless they screw-up majorly in regards to diplomacy, I feel that this should be a rather easy win for them.

War Thread.
NOT! appear to be relatively new to this world, as a tribe that is. Initially starting out as the group of players that refused the merge of -Swag and Banned, they appear to have merged with some of Aenema to gain some ground before officially declaring on CHAMP (a tribe which currently contains their former enemies from Banned, as well as their ex-tribemates from -Swag).
The PnP itself? Better than the [END] vs ~HELL~ one anyway. It is short, to the point, brief and it gets the job done. A simple mail stating NOT!’s intent, some reports that actually are worth looking at, a link to the TWStats page which shows one of their enemies getting annihilated and a quote from the CHAMP’s forums. Even the pictures add something to the PnP – adding a bit of relevant humour. Short and sweet.
The tribes seem fairly evenly matched – in numbers anyway. Roughly the same points, roughly the same amount of villages and roughly the same amount of members. As such, NOT!’s performance against CHAMP to date then is actually quite good – although again, nothing spectacular. Nobling 60 villages in 5 days is approximately 12 villages a day – nothing that is exactly awe-inspiring.
This war doesn’t seem to have generated the same amount of “public interest” as the [END] v ~HELL~ war, which is probably because the tribes are ranked 6 and 8 respectively – which although a high rank, doesn’t really command the same influence as the rank 1 tribe. That being said, the topic itself actually makes for quite an interesting read, and it certainly is a war worth following – even if it is quite slow paced.

War Thread #1 / War Thread #2
How odd. SeVen took it upon themselves to “steal SchOoL’s thunder” and make their own declaration a mere couple of hours prior to SchOoL were planning to post theirs. Looking at the first declaration (by SeVen), we can see immediately that the PnP failed. It turned, almost instantly, the entire public anti-SeVen, giving SchOoL the upper hand. Mistaking World 50 and typing in “World 15″ in your declaration is also generally not a smart thing to do. The thread was locked 2 days into the war, and the second War Thread (by SchOoL) became the main thread. It seems odd to me that they were not at the very least merged, but I’m not here to discuss that.
Moving on to the second War Thread, by SchOoL. The pictures (albeit not very original) are actually made quite relevant by the context into which they are put. I’m not saying they make the PnP amazing (because it isn’t), but it certainly adds a small bit of humour which is always good. The two War Threads between them appear to have generated quite a bit of interest – essentially a page of posting every day, which isn’t bad. However, that is to be expected when two of the top 5 tribes go to war.
At the time of declaration, SchOoL were ranked 3rd with 59 members and 24 million points. SeVen on the other hand were ranked 5th with 52 members and 14 million points. The numbers were clearly on SchOoL’s side, and that’s how it played out. Having been at war for a month, SchOoL have over 2.5x the conquers against their enemy than their enemy has on them. The pace of nobling, as usual, isn’t anything that in itself will kill SeVen, but the impact it can have internally may well do the job for them.
It appears to be a fairly even match in terms of continent dominance (SchOoL 5 – 4 SeVen) and spread. It looks as though it’ll be more about “trench warfare” than who has the better skill. See who can outlast the other, so to speak. Personally I feel SchOoL will come out on top because all the statistics point towards them, but you never know – anything can happen in TribalWars.

War Thread.
Hmm. The declaration itself was actually pretty decent. However, the statement in the declaration that most caught my eye (due to the statistics) is the following:
Today we’ll begin to prove why we’re rank 1, and they’re not. – Social Suicide
…it seems so empty now. Potential that never became reality. It is statements like these that do eventually come back to haunt you, if you don’t live up to expectations. One thing is quite clear – CBears did not live up to expectations, nor did Social Suicide as their leader.
At the time of the declaration, HUG were ranked 3rd with 37 members, 25 million points and 2,750 villages. CBears on the other hand were ranked 1st with 62 members, 48 million points and 5,250 villages. The statistics were hugely in CBears favour, and they were expected to win it. CBears, however, have had a tremendous “fall from grace”, currently sitting at 4th rank with 32 members, 38 million points and 3,850 villages. To put this down solely to HUG would be unfair to both sides in the war, but HUG were definitely a catalyst in the collapse of CBears, denying such is idiocy.
The topic itself seems to have generated a lot of interest – however, I doubt for the reasons Social Suicide intended or wanted. The public seem to have rather quickly turned against CBears and Social Suicide and sided with HUG. This seems to be quite a change from the previous “fight” between CBears and DIY (which was really just a PnP fight). At that time, the public seemed to side quite largely with CBears. So, despite his topic generating a lot of interest (and thus being a success), it did so for reasons that I believe he would not have wanted (and thus his PnP was a failure).
About two weeks into the war – the worst thing Social Suicide could possibly do; he did. In fact, it was seen as so detrimental to CBears that it got its own thread which can be seen here. This thread seems to, if anything, have hardened attitudes against Social Suicide and CBears, rather than having the (presumably) desired effect of getting the “sympathy” vote.
Timeframe: 18/09/2010 00:00:00 to 19/09/2010 00:00:00
Total conquers against opposite side:
CBears: 0
HUG: 61
Difference: 61

You’ll notice that I put in a third set of statistics above. This third set represents HUG’s latest operation against CBears – which took 61 villages. This is indeed something to be impressed by at this stage of the game. I personally have not only been hugely let down by the performance (or lack thereof) of CBears, but I have also been mightily impressed by the performance of HUG.
It is quite clear that HUG have come out the better after this war. They have built up a reputation, they have built up as a tribe, they have defeated the top tribe. They have redeemed themselves after the whole DIY debacle. Defeated? Yes. As CBears is officially ending, HUG can now be declared winners.

The Survey Section
Well, we all know the results by now. The winners of the Best In-Game Player category were the two co’s on the myhammerisbig account. I’m sure we can all agree that they would win the best in-game username contest too (if ever I was to host such a thing). I interviewed both Sanchez and Hydro (the co-players on the account) to find out more about what it is that makes them so great. I’m not quite certain whether the interview answered that particular question or not, but we had fun none-the-less =)

FrailBeauty: Hello there, Sanchez and Hydro (co-players of the myhammerisbig account). You guys have just won the title of best in-game player according to my super-awesome (super-accurate) survey. How does it feel?
Hydro: It feels good. We’re being recognized despite our uhm… Questionable play-style (one that involves too much liquor).
Sanchez: I get to talk with my co, who is hot and you, who is also hot, so I’m all good
FrailBeauty: So have you two been co-playing from the start of this world, or have you played previous worlds together?
Hydro: Sanch, did I start co-ing you when you were 2 vills large I think?
Sanchez: I saw Hydro’s pic. Her co-player was MIA and I needed one. I wanted her to play with me, so I asked her.
Hydro: And I saw his pic and gladly accepted.
Sanchez: Turns out that she’s a hell of a player as well.
Hydro: same play-style yeah. But no, we haven’t played together on previous worlds.
FrailBeauty: What type of players would you describe yourselves as? Aggressive, strategic, or defensive?
Sanchez: Aggressive.
Hydro: And strategic though. In the beginning we were strategic in our noblings.
Sanchez: the strategy is to kill everything close by, which is aggressive.
Hydro: Yeah ok.
FrailBeauty: Which do you enjoy more? Start-up, mid-game, or late-game playing?
Hydro: I personally hate start up, because I suck at it. Sanchez is good at it though.
Sanchez: I like mid-late game. Start-up is easy
FrailBeauty: Do you two consider yourselves to be the best players on W50?
Hydro: Have you ever seen my awesome backwards trains?
Sanchez: There is always someone who is better.
FrailBeauty: Haha, do you admit to the whole world that you got your army of minions to vote for you guys in the poll?
Sanchez: Pfft, no. They all just like us on W50. I gotta admit though, out of the other 2 options there were to vote for, we have the least amount of barbs and internals in our conquers. I got my army of minions to vote for you, Daria. That’s why you beat Lloyd
FrailBeauty: So what makes a player good at this game?
Sanchez: A good player is able to 1) get along well with the team 2) hit targets 3) lead when necessary 4) be lead when necessary. Or perhaps a top account in every world played makes you good?
FrailBeauty: If you could give advice to those that are perhaps not doing as well as they wish they were, what would it be?
Sanchez: Try a new world with morale.
Hydro: Give your villages to us.
Sanchez: Stay away from guides and learn from your own mistakes as well as the team mates around you.
FrailBeauty: Which aspect of the game do you enjoy more? The politics or the actual wars? Or do you think you can’t have one without the other?
Sanchez: When I am drunk, I love the politics, but when I am sober, I like to war.
Hydro: Are u sure it isn’t the other way around, Sanch?
Sanchez: Maybe.
Hydro: I have always loved the politics involved, but I do enjoy warfare more.
FrailBeauty: Sanchez, would you say that alcohol is responsible for your success in the game?
Sanchez: I get a lot of ODA when drinking, but sometimes I nuke myself when drinking as well . But no, the myhammerisbig account is where it is today because of the set of skills that hydro and I have acquired as well as good team play from tribe mates.
FrailBeauty: How important is ODA when judging other players as well as yourself?
Hydro: It is important, cause it says a lot about a aggressive play-style. We’re both hot for high OD rankings.
FrailBeauty: Do you have a list of do’s and don’ts that you live by when it comes to this game?
Hydro: Do’s: Farm, farm, farm – till you drop. Nuke noble and time properly.
Sanchez: Hit on all the hotties
Hydro: Don’t forget to check trains.
Sanchez: Don’t send your train to land before your nukes. Don’t send 1 noble for a re-cap on a 2x world.
FrailBeauty: What would be your favourite moment on W50 so far?
Sanchez: The formation of HUG.
FrailBeauty: Which would you say has been the most challenging battle on W50 thus far?
Sanchez: It’s a tie between the Speechless war and all the noobs in K74 sending nuke/nobles at us for 3 days, non-stop. But no battle has really been “fun” thus far, to be honest.
FrailBeauty: Have you come across any particular individual opponent that has impressed you?
Sanchez: Not with my account. Most that i have fought have been stacked and haven’t really had to rely on skills like sniping and re-capping, which I find disappointing.
However, while sitting other accounts on the front lines, I would say that Ground Zero (Diamond.blade) has been, by far the best competition where sniping is concerned. Still no recap though.
FrailBeauty: Who is the best player on w50 in your opinion? Who got your vote in the nominations?
Sanchez: In my opinion the best player on W50 is JJgreat (from SeVeN). And if most of SchOol didn’t agree, they’d be lying to themselves. Between his own account and all the accounts that he has sat on that are front line… He has managed to do very well in this war, considering the odds that are/were stacked against him and his tribe.
FrailBeauty: What keeps you enthusiastic about the game in the later stages? A lot of people quit at 100 or so villages, why have you stuck it out and do you plan on being around for much longer?
Sanchez: I’ll be here for a long time. The relationships that evolve from playing this game with tools such as Skype keep me playing a lot longer than I used to. I also love coordinating attacks and ops which come down to hundreds of nukes from each account and ODA and ODD going up by the millions for players.

“Although this isn’t anything that will kill ~HELL~ in itself, internal issues which do exist (as was made clear in the opening post) may very well be something that could be a fatal flaw in ~HELL~”
) The fact that one of the dukes was among the players that told him they would leave the tribe should have been a hint
)
Sorry to dissapoint people, but we never had internal issues
Some of my guys told astro they would join in order to keep him hoping
But doesn’t matter now, I’m just glad to prove people that a small tribe can do good against a huge one
Sorry mean butt’s
Well im glad they disbanded gives me and my tribe a chance to finish them off
O_____O well done again! I like how you were objective with the CBears situation!
