My Adventure at One O’Clock

May 5, 2009 in Random Thoughts, Team Writings

2009 just has not been my year. I can count over 12 different things that have happened to me since January 1st of this year, that have made it a crazy, weird, hellish year! From a car accident to the sewage line bursting, things just seem to be going wrong.

One of the more recent happenings, is just not something you hear about in everyday conversation so I thought that I would share my unusual situation.

Lets go back about two weeks. I was going to take the trash out at 1 am in the morning, as the next morning was trash day. We live in a 3 story house, so to take the trash out I normally just go down the stairs off the back deck. Well when I came back up there was this loud noise and all I saw was our two male cats fighting this black thing. I had no idea whether it was another cat or some sort of other animal. My brother came downstairs out of his room and chased it away with a broom. The black animal escaped the fight by running upstairs, and finally being cornered in his bedroom.

So come to find out, this animal was actually a black cat, one that I had noticed around the neighborhood, escaping into the woods from time to time. We figured the reason he was around about once a month is due to our girl cat Molly. We adopted Molly from the pound and she was fixed, but it appears they did not get everything out of her. So every month we give her medicine from the Vet and keep her inside for a few days. Some months this works fine and she is okay, others she cries and acts very frantic. My best guess is that this black male cat was just brave enough to run into the house, as the backdoor was open. Normally he doesn’t get closer then the stairs leading off the deck though!

So back upstairs to the bedroom, we have this wildcat hissing and running around. Honestly he appeared to be so agitated that I was worried that he may have rabies, and could have bitten one of our other cats.  Well my bright idea was to take towel, wrap it around my hand, and then try to corner him and get him into a cat carrier. I cornered him alright, but instead of him running into the carrier he decided to try and climb the frame of the bathroom door that led off my brothers bedroom. When this happened, I tried grabbing the scruff of his neck and pushing him into the carrier…no such luck. He flipped around and sunk his entire mouth into my hand.

Well after that happened, I gave up. My hand was bleeding profusely and I had to go take care of it. I would say it took about 3 hours to finally stop bleeding.

This devil cat decided to trap himself behind the bed, and my brother was able to sweep him into the cage with a broom. Later on we did check our cats for bites, they were bite free, just a bit skitish as they could still smell this weird cat in their house, since we had him in a cat carrier in the garage.Animal control came and got him around 1pm the next day. Then my hand ended up getting infected and I had to go get antibiotics for it.

I wanted to write about this that very same day, but I decided that I should wait until I knew whether the devil cat had rabies or not. I had no idea who it belonged to, after scouring the neighborhood a bit, I’ve come to the decision it was simply a stray. Good news though! It appears the cat was just so eager to get to Molly that he had to come just added a bit of craziness to that day. He is definitely rabies free, so I won’t be dying from this little dramatic experience :-)
