Hello Graphics forum and welcome to the first ever graphics blog, you can thank Repinski as it was his suggestion, I hope you enjoy the read and that it offers a whole new aspect to the forums for you. As I have said before, if after reading this you think there is something to be added, feel free to contact me.
The theme this week was a simple freestyle contest, in the end we had many people sharing the same winning positions so I apologize now for the long list of names.
1st Place – Zenron the Great, Undead Kurt Cobain
2nd Place – Lawpaok, Genetic Engineer, I have to say NO
3rd Place - Harbinger297
This puts the monthly SOTW leaderboard as follows, the brackets being the number of points a member has :
1st – Genetic Engineer (5)
2nd – Zenron the Great (4)
3rd – Undead Kurt Cobain (3)
You can vote in the current SOTW here
Its not a massive interview, but I’m still getting used to this whole interviewing people so give me a couple of blogs to get into the whole rhythm of things
Forum Name : Lawpaok

Red = Genetic Engineer
Blue = Lawpaok
So lets jump right in, what initially got you started out in graphics ?
Well it’s been like two years since i started messing with Photoshop but i guess i liked retouching pictures at first and then i got more into it
So you’ve been doing graphics for nearly 2 years, what is it that you enjoy about graphics so much ?
To tell you the truth I haven’t really thought that in depth but i am pleased when i see art in general and i am even more pleased when I see art produced by me and all these compilations you can achieve with many different things is something unique
So you’d say you enjoy the final product and the beauty of the art ? In that case I assume a community of artists where you can share work is very important to you. What initially drew you to the TW graphics community, and why have you stayed ?
I’ve heard about the great TW graphics community in the other browser games’ forums i am and I thought why not?I also like participating in contests so the thing that TW has art contests along with the great talent that is there made me stay
That’s nice to hear we are getting talked about elsewhere So, I know not all people do, but I will still ask the question. Do you have any plans to take you’re graphics further in you’re life, maybe a career or education ? Or is it simply an enjoyable hobby for you ?
In the beginning it started as a hobby and although I want to study Computer Engineering, graphics will still remain a big part of my life and possibly why not, earn some money from that in the future.;)
I get what you’re saying, I’m thinking the same, a bit of freelance graphics in the spare time couldn’t hurt in the future Well I think that about raps it up, thanks for being a great interviewee
No problem Ge, glad talking to you
Zenrons Illuminating Visions
This is the place where Zenron has compiled some of the best art from the general graphics comunity and then with his expertise, written about it to give us an insight.
My favourite thing about this LP? The flow It guides your eyes right the way across the image so naturally. That isn’t to mention the pretty great effects and the depth which this piece invokes. The texture is pretty nice as well.
This is currently my wallpaper on my desktop(tiled of course). Simple because the effects are just so amazing. This is flashy and dark, but it’s nice nonetheless.
Ok, so this one may not be as flashy as the others, but what it lacks in effects, it makes up with style. It has a subtlety that the othe pieces can only hope to demonstrate. Not to mention that out of the three pieces, this is the most interesting to look at in my opinion. The others didn’t really have any sort of high concept, but this one explores the imagination, stretching beyond the scope his mind can handle. Well, that’s my interpretation of it, I’m sure you’ll be able to think of one your own. This is by far my favourite of three.
Emerald – Made by Dannilo
I’ve selected this piece to show you all some really good colours and text. Look how well the text fits with the rest of the sig. It doesn’t detract from the sig because it’s distracting, it adds overall appeal because it is placed well and is blended properly. If you’ve been into the GFX scene for very long, then look at this sig with composition in mind and you’ll notice that it does exactly the right things to draw interest to the focal point.
Name Unknown – Made by BirdUnit
Wanted to add a sig to this post which I actually thought was truly interesting rather than an overused styles that I come across so much. The colours are really great, especially around the bottom. The composition is spot on in every way and and the texture of it is something that you just don’t see all that often.
Daft sigging – Made by BLANE
The final piece in my list was created by BLANE, a name which quite a few people will probably be familiar with, as being one of the only people to attain the rank of professional without using LP crops. I want to draw attention to the conflict of flow within this sig. Now, this isn’t something that most people should really try because they’ll fail, but notice how the disruption of flow from the foreground effects and the background effects actually end up highlighting the focal point?
Funny Picture of the Week
This part is to introduce some light humor into the blog as well as all the serious graphic discussion that is going on. So every week we will be having this section, just to give you a bit of a laugh while reading the blog. To get your favorite funny picture into this part of the blog, simply send me a mail with your picture and if I find yours the funniest out of the bunch, it will make it into this section.
Beckies Games Corner
Not really sure what to write… But yeah this isn’t the best puzzle/game/quiz thingy that will appear in the blog, I was just pretty rushed to do it by my master. Its just a basic word search where you will need to find GFX-related words (word list provided). There are 10 words to find, the winner will be decided by whoever responds with a completed wordsearch, and guesses the number I’m thinking of out of 20 ^^. To complete the words earch you must save the wordsearch, or DL it or whatever, and highlight all 10 words, using some low opacity paint brush and then send it to me, Nubz/ I have to say NO.
Also the first person to hand in their completed wordsearch gets the bonus of a 1 point leeway on their guess. IE if you guess 3 you will also guess 2 and 4 or if you guess 19 you will also guess 18 and 20.
So here is the amazing word search you’ve all be waiting for your whole lives, you know its true:
And here is the wordlist you may need:
So to round it off you need to send me a completed word search and guess a number between 0-20. Each person shall get one guess and will not be notified who won until the next blog.
Good luck all,
Games editor, Beckie
Thankyou for reading, let me know what you thought.
