World 19 News Update!

April 26, 2010 in World 019 News

Hello w19! I hope you have all been well this week. It’s been somewhat quiet this week.  A few interesting things have happened, however. Several days ago, craigcarey (currently the rank 11 player in the world) left Candy and has recently joined HEROES (=o). Also, our little warmongers All* have declared on TNT in the northeast (link)! Right now All* has a nice lead on caps, but this is usually the case in the early early stages of a new war. We shall see if they keep up the momentum. It is also interesting to note that another top-ranked player, suby in corea, is being nobled internally by UNSF. While the player has likely quit, we can’t really say for sure because suby has never been one to post on the public forums…but gobbling up a 15 mio. account is a setback for any tribe. I can’t recall much else interesting happening at this time (let me know if I’ve missed something). So let’s have us a look at the maps:

I have no revelations about this map =P

Weekly Interview

This week’s interview came up at an opportune time!  I happened to have set up an interview with Gaelen Strident previously, so this was done before the recent declaration on TNT, fyi…no interviews about the war yet =)

Q: Introduce yourself to us =)
Well, my name is James. The wife and I have two grown children. And as it stands now I’m a slave to my two poodles. At present I play in W19 in the far north where the good looking players were positioned, naturally.

Q: How long have you been playing TW? w19?

I used to play Runescape just for something to do with occasional free time I had now and again. I enjoyed working toward building up my little cartoon man with turquoise green armor they called Rune Full. But then the game turned into a major time consumer. My son introduced me to TW one day. It seemed just the right thing to take me away from the expense of RS, in both time and money. Just occasional spot checks were all that would be necessary on my acct: not endless skilling as in RS. Little did I know…Anyway I started about Aug. 1, 2008. And have logged in almost every day since then. Pretty lame, huh? Had I known in 2008 what I know now, I’d either be on the top rung of this world by now or I would have quit on the first day. The latter would have prolly been best =P

Q: What other online games do you enjoy playing?
Occasionally a few tower defense games, but really nothing else online or off line. At my age games aren’t a priority. Just continuing with TW as an excuse to get away from more important matters. At times a rousing Risk or Axis & Allies match with experienced players is welcome. And of course, there’s chess.

Q: What other worlds do you currently play/have you previously played? How would you compare those worlds to w19?
I play in W48 now just to kick some noob tail. Been on several worlds, but W19 has been the most rewarding. I will say though that building the tribe VICE on world 28 was the most fun. We had a good team and fearless. I left it because it took too much time on top of W19. A number of other situations where I grew big enough to not be a good target came about on different worlds, but then they were just another W19 situation, so I quit them. Every now and then players get the itch to level up more than one rank a month and start on new promising worlds… bad move in my opinion, but I can’t resist either.

Q: What is your favorite aspect of TribalWars? Least favorite?
I favor being able to build the acct. one brick at a time. Most players lose patience with a game like this because of its basic format (takes forever to do anything whatsoever—just my speed). My one gripe is the fact I’ve spent so much stinkin’ money on the game just to do what I could do any other way, which is to waste time. But once you’ve put that much time and expense into something, ‘tis hard to walk away from it. Other aspects such as making acquaintances and having a place to tell my stupid jokes tips me toward staying on with it. Obviously it’s human interaction all the way around that keeps us all on the hook here in Tribal Wars.

Q: How would you describe your playing style?
Attack me and you’ll find out. =P

Q: Could you give us an idea of your w19 history? (past tribes, etc)
After starting, I joined a tribe called EMP2. That fell off almost immediately and after 3 weeks I was accepted into CRABS, (my second tribe experience). Got to know many of the PANDAS folks at that time. However they decided that CRABS was too spread out and K5 was really not involved in tribal affairs. Enter {~VD~}– a tribe that was dumb enough to start a war on Signos that lasted 12 hours… long enough for me (the most active player) to unload on Trapkid and waste my entire offensive on him (but I did at least get a village out of the deal =P). After I spear headed the attack, the tribe abandoned the war with me smiling sheepishly at a guy that was 10 times my size. He forgave me and we eventually became chat partners. After quitting that worthless piece of (censored) of a tribe, Ripperjakk invited me to AD! Now, there was a tribe for ya! What cohesion and camaraderie! We had a long and rewarding time, becoming a war hound of the tribe. Lost no wars and growth was steady and the threat of eating inactives alive kept them active. *sigh* those were the days. But time marches on and now we’re here swimming in a soup of new tribes in the north.

Q: The map in the Northeast corner of w19 is a bit of mess since the Pandas breakup. How do you think this will influence diplomacy & wars down the road?
I really don’t expect a lot to come of it. I believe it’s a matter of opinion on whether the northeast is a mess, actually. As a tribe expands as PANDAS did there really is less opportunity for local skirmishes. The breakup may allow for some more local activity among former players of PANDAS.
Players who were expansive before the breakup usually remain so, no matter what the political arrangement is among tribes. TW is mostly about players; in my opinion, tribes are not as essential as the activity of a player. It is true: support is necessary, but larger players rarely need support anymore.

Q: Pandas recently broke apart and the former members have gone in multiple different tribes. Nothing was announced on the public forums. Could you give the w19 community an idea of what happened?
Again, the size of the tribe was an issue, in my opinion. A tribe with such a vast front as was PANDAS has a lot of different interests among players tugging on the leadership. Nothing in PANDAS’ history is unique: the players in PANDAS interact with each other and with friends of other tribes. Interaction causes changes. Tribe changes happen so often it’s hard to keep up, hence the “Tribe Changes” record on every profile in tribe and player. The biggest changes that occurs are the colors on the dominance maps. Hate to throw water on all the gossip… heheh.

Q: If you could make an improvement to TW (without having to worry about it being too radical of a change or getting community support), what would it be and why?
The improvements are already being made. I’d prefer the scripts that are allowed to be edited in game play become part of the premium game experience. And I see that some of them are. Apparently the game programmers see what inventions players come up with on their own and are willing to incorporate them in the game itself. Good move, folks. It’s made my stay more enjoyable. I’d like to see an in-game chat fill up some of the empty space on either side of the game window. I’d like to see other stats become available in this space as well. In-game dominance maps would be nice if it can be done without a lot of bandwidth. I’d like to see a decrease in the cost of nobles in packets. However, I suspect this would cause severe ramifications for some players and would benefit some more than others. It would be a lot easier to lose a lot of villages if you’re not active daily. I understand it’d be unprofitable to allow only a few players to remain on W19 as we crash through the continents at a faster pace and eliminate players more quickly. But frankly, the point of the game is to dominate. As it stands, the prospects of world dominance are daunting at the rate we can queue nobles. I expect to be in control of the all of W19 by the year 2,215.

Q: Freebie — anything else you want to say to w19?
A player once wrote in Runescape to a player who was begging for something, “A noob in need is a noob indeed.” Don’t be a noob– be self-sufficient. This eliminates whining and excuses. And by all means, keep your integrity and your sense of humor. It’s only a game…
… naw… this is war!

For Next Week…

Well, I received a good suggestion for next week’s blog…I’m taking submissions for a “facepalm of the week”.  This can be submitted by anyone for anyone’s facepalm. Guidelines: don’t be nasty, have something of substance, and send me your responses via pm for screening. I had originally intended these to be TW-exclusive, but sometimes the stupid things we do in RL are too funny not to share, so RL facepalms are fair game too.

Bad example: JohnnyQ2010 is a noob because he sends fail attacks!

Good example: I catnuked myself today!

This is a trial run, we’ll see how it goes =)

And for next week, would you rather see some current war profiles, or a w19 players debate? Vote on the thread and we’ll go from there! Until next time w19!

World 19 News and Update!

April 19, 2010 in World 019 News

Hi w19! I hope you all have been well. It’s been pretty damn dead here on w19, at least in terms of buzz on the external forums. There’s the usual amount of flaming and bickering going on, and I get the impression that everyone is about tired of it. But in a way, it’s a sorry time of the year to be playing TW. It’s mid-April, and the weather is starting to warm up for most players. I think many players would feel the same as I and prefer to be outdoors than inside launching and defending from attacks as we have all winter long. It’s also coming to the end of spring terms, and exam times take a toll on student TWers and their accounts (another large group in the TW community).  So let’s try to keep our spring fever in check kids, and get along like the adults that some of us actually are and many of us will soon be =)

Happy Anniversary!

No w19, I have not gotten you flowers or set up a romantic evening, but I would like to commemorate w19’s 2-year anniversary as of April 9th. A little crazy isn’t it? I know there have been a good many people who have come and gone in the last two years, but there are also many of us around today who have been here since the beginning. TW is a game of skill, strategy, and socializing. You make friends with some, enemies with others. It can bring out the best and worst in people. It can bring us to laugh, stress, enjoyment, anger, and many other emotions. I think that what really keeps so many of us around (or brings those who leave back) is the humanity worked into the game itself. I suppose that is enough of me waxing nostalgic, and perhaps in another 10 years when our kids are playing our old accounts we can log on our forum accounts and tell them stories of the golden days =D

Dominance Maps

No big changes to report here. Kest13 joined XLR from OutFit (under the UNSF tag again), changing the landscape of k47 a good bit. Nom nom here, nom nom there, and a bit of nom nom everywhere!

Weekly Interview

This week we got a 2-for-1 deal! I contacted ChuckyPig for an interview, and got a double from both ChuckyPig and Legend of Light, ex-Pandas who have become members of All*. Here it is!

Q: Introduce yourselves to us =)
A:(Legend of Light) My name is legend of light, real name is Marc. I’m in law school, and am 27 years old. I live in the U.S.
(ChuckyPig) I’m ChuckyPig, if people are nice they call me Chucky or MrPig, if they aren’t they call me Pig =|

Q: How long have you been playing TW? w19?
A: (CP) 3-4 months late on w19 starting…I’m catching up though =)
(LoL) I started playing TW about two and a half years ago.

Q: What other worlds do you currently play/have you previously played? How would you compare those worlds to w19?
A: (LoL) I’ve played on w21, but deleted my account because I soon found that coin worlds with 100 member tribes are about as boring as watching paint dry.
(CP) Like your jokes
(LOL) W19 is the main world that I play.
(CP) The only world I play

Q: What is your favorite aspect of TribalWars? Least favorite?
A: (CP) Kill kill kill…I got pretty good at defending now its time for more ODA…
(LoL) I like to kill people, lets just be honest. Nothing makes me more happy in this game than when my tribe or myself dominates our enemy.
(CP) Hurrah
(LoL) My least favorite thing is that there is a lot of down time in this game where you are waiting for things to happen.
(CP) Downtime? What’s that…

Q: You were dukes of Pandas, correct? Who formed Pandas (if it wasn’t you, how did you end up as duke)?
A: (LoL) Yes, I was a duke of Pandas. Pandas was a merge between two tribes: Hard* and DYN. It was originally formed by JeffDS77 (Duke of Hard*) and Unjustified (Duke of DYN). Jeff and Unjustified remained dukes throughout Pandas war with Bonded. It’s hard for me to say how I ended up as Duke of Pandas. For whatever reason Jeff and Unjustified asked me to be part of Pandas leadership as a baron, and a week or so later I was a Duke along with Chucky and Unjustified. It all happened more out of necessity. At the point in time when myself and Chucky became Dukes, Pandas was in need of people to step forward and lead the tribe.
(CP) What he said.

Q: Pandas was quite large in size (in fact, the only tribe close to Asylum in points at all). Do you think this was an advantage or disadvantage for Pandas?
A: (LoL) Our size was certainly an advantage.
(CP) (smirk) We were big.
(LoL) When Pandas was at its peak, the majority of the tribe was very active. We commanded a presence in the North/East that left us relatively untouched.
(CP) Aided by the fact that for a long time we were the only major tribe not involved in a ‘proper’ war (sorry Just/Wolf…but…) so growing was easy but also zzzz.
(LoL) The strength that Pandas commanded was not in our size. The reason Pandas was such a great tribe was because of the commitment of its players. The Tribe’s points was just one indicator of how dedicated the tribe was to individual and collective success.
(CP) But in the end I think it became a negative because points and 40 players became important in our growth, too important. We lost a real hardcore of Pandas blood by diluting with too many new recruits and replacement players. Also size was detrimental in keeping people occupied – 180 hr round trip nuking isn’t fun.

Q: Pandas vs. Bonded was the major war of the Pandas reign. Why did the War against Bonded stop?
A: (LoL) We got tired of hearing Nathan cry for his momma.
(CP) Yeah, does he ever stop posting on the forum? We should buy you a violin and a book on being pedantic for Christmas…is that an isolated village?

Q: Pandas recently broke apart and the former members have gone into multiple different tribes. Nothing was announced on the public forums. Could you give the w19 community an idea of what happened?
A: (CP) Pandas are shy and retreating animals, unless you make them angry then they attack..
(LoL) Despite what some have said on the public forums, the Panda split was not a result in a split or disagreement in the leadership of Pandas. Basically, what led to the undoing of Pandas was a split between the tribe’s leadership (and those loyal to our leadership) and another faction of players.
(CP) There’s an old saying about one or two rotten apple spoiling the whole barrel.
(LoL) Pandas, at its worst, was wrought with disagreement and dissent. All of the members of Pandas are passionate people and players. Eventually it began to suck the fun out of the game for some of us.
(CP) Nothing worse than having a forum where every post is going to be nitpicked and argued over. We decided as a Council, to think about starting a new tribe to have a fresh start, a change in direction, but mostly to bring back some spirit and bond between a smaller core of active like-minded players. Eventually we split the tribe and unfortunately took a lot of the problems from Pandas into EPIC so it got messy with more splits.
(LoL) But now the majority of Pandas have found their new homes in All* and TNT.
(CP) Don’t forget donkey leading the merry at their new Homestead.
(LoL) Speaking for myself only, I am quite happy with how things have turned out. Pandas was an amazing tribe, and it was great while it lasted.
(CP) Yup, we had some good battles (probably with nukes and also words) and there are some great and active players floating around up in the north east. Very few dead or dying accounts because we knowz how to noble. nom.
(LoL) I’m quite happy in All* and look forward to fighting alongside our new friends. We do wish those in TNT the best, but won’t find ourselves in a tribe with them again anytime soon.
(CP) Should have named it PK though =P

Q: If you could see any war happen, what would it be and why (in an imaginary w19)?
A: (LoL) Unjustified v. Vilja??
(CP) Why? She’d give up and just dump another account. It would be funny to cat all her vills though (chuckle)
(LoL) Ooooh good plan
(CP) I’d like to see Candy v XLR core war….up close and dirty fighting…

Q: Freebie — anything else you want to say to w19?
A: (LoL) Keep the game fun. Thanks to the guys/girls in All*
(CP) Long live the memory of Pandas….people kept saying that we were going extinct…but we just changed our outfits ;D

A Few Final Notes

I know that some of you have mentioned to me that the blog seems a little short lately, and I feel that way too. This is where I could really use some of your suggestions. I would be more than happy to include contributions from users, something like a guest corner featuring new posters every week. For now, I’m holding off on doing the blog question because I’m not really getting much feedback from it at all. Would you like to see tribe profiles? Player profiles rather than interviews? Contests? Debates? Please talk to me and we can make the blog better together! Thanks for reading w19, see you next week =)

w19 Weekly News and World Update

April 12, 2010 in World 019 News

Hello w19! I hope you all are well.  It’s been a quiet week here on w19.  The biggest news to report is the breakup of Pandas, the powerhouse of the NE rim. I’m trying to get the dish on that story, but in the meantime the maps themselves are pretty interesting so have a look-look:

As you can see, the northeast is still looking messy post-Pandas.  Several former Pandas have now joined All*, growing the size of All* nicely.  Most of the rest of the Pandas players have gone into one of the two new tribes up in the northeast, TNT and ~HOME~.

Let’s have a look at the power rankings too, to see what else is going on:

Tribes Out:

If you look at the numbers above, the biggest gain has gone to All* from picking up stray Pandas =p  The other significant gains/losses appear to be from player movement also. Asylum has given themselves a makeover to the nice and summery CABANA =)

Weekly Interview

Since it is kinda slow this week, I’ve got two interviews for everyone to read =) The first is with LOVERLOVER:

Q: Introduce yourself to us =)

LOVERLOVER, all caps. Some know me as Chrissy.

Q: How long have you been playing TW? w19?

World 19 was my first world. I started off as a complete noob, still am. My first legitimate tribe was AoD. I learned not to mix my troops when the AoD duke sent off all troops off to die after he sat me =( Later on I was invited to Venom, then CSDS and Asylum. I now reside with the seXually Liberated and Rambunctious and I am totally enjoying it!

Q: What other worlds do you currently play/have you previously played? How would you compare those worlds to w19?

At this time I am playing in world 19/43. World 47 had me for a bit- co played with ChuckyPig. We were doing quite well until our neighbors got sick of us attacking them all. World 19 is the most interesting and drama filled world I have experienced yet and there is absolutely nothing I would change about it.

Q: What is your favorite aspect of TribalWars? Least favorite?

I am a very organized person and love maintaining my villages. Downgrading, upgrading, correcting techs whatever. Defending is another thing I enjoy and I am good at it! My least favorite thing is the cost of nobles and premium cost going up. It is ridiculous!

Q: What do you think of the v6.0 updates?

For the most part quite enjoyable. The noble planner is brilliant and with the exception of 1 oops has worked out well.

Q: You have a massively huge account and have stayed at the top in the world ranks for a long time. What’s the secret to your success?

My 300 nukes. I work them like a machine. Honestly, I am very selective on who I choose to attack. I study and watch my victim for a long time prior to making my move. I think through the months it has paid off.

Q: You were in Asylum a long time, but tell us about what tribe(s) you were in before joining Asylum?

AoD, Venom, CSDS, Asylum.

Q: Why did you take up a leadership role in Asylum? What was your experience of being a tribe leader?

I was a Baron of Asylum for ages prior to taking on the Duke role. I will try to keep this short and sweet. My role came to play due to a possible threat to Asylum’s existence. I was sanctioned Duke to ensure that would not happen.

Q: Why did you leave Asylum? Was your parting a friendly one?

I love the guys at Asylum. They are completely insane!!!!!! I believe my departing was friendly, at least that is my take on it. I am still in touch on a daily basis with many of the guys there. Drats and I were always close and I consider him a good friend. He is a great duke when he puts his mind to it.

Q: You’ve left Asylum for your former enemy, XLR! It’s quite scandalous, really. Your response? =P

It could be quite scandalous but at this time and place it is rather placid. We are both striving for the same goal, NOM NOM OutFit. Who knows what the future may hold. This world is full of surprises, right?

Q: Freebie — anything else you want to say to w19?

I would like to thank certain people for teaching me this game. It has been such fun learning the ropes, working as a team and meeting so many new folks. Special shout outs to CoachGD, Drattuts, Maljada, LauraDestroya, Slytown and the mighty but annoying Nathan PotterPants. I would like to give the most thanks for my co player. Olso is the best!!!

Our second interview is with Dekzy, here it is:

Q: Introduce yourself to us =)

Hello I’m Dekzy or on new worlds, I’m JailBait my first name is Declan last name is secrets.

Q: How long have you been playing TW? w19?

I’ve being playing Tribalwars for about 2 and half years now. First started on W11 with my friend didn’t stay long, then moved to W16 where I have to say has been my favourite world so far then I joined W19 and started in K23 then moved to K6 for a friend who has since quit.

Q: What other worlds do you currently play/have you previously played? How would you compare those worlds to w19?

I play W4, W19, W21, W49 and I must admit W49 seems to look like a good world.

Q: What is your favourite aspect of Tribalwars? Least favourite?

My favourite aspect is getting to see all the great graphic designs in tribe’s Coat of arms and wacky yet wonderful names.

Q: What was your involvement in DYN (I can’t recall if you were duke, baron, etc, just give us a rundown)?

Well just after I moved down to K6 there was a family tribe there by the name of ~TH~ and after my previous tribe Rtd-R warred them I failed my tribe because no-one was nobling anything so I got a deal with the then duke of ~TH~ and he accepted a ceasefire if they merged so the tribe merged. Well anyway I later on joined the main tribe and got to know a lot of the members unjustified who was baron going to become duke and Huw Solo who was baron I got on really well with those two and still do they are real life brothers anyway we all agreed a family wasn’t the way forward and one of the suggested a brand new start and only taking in the good players from the family so I left and made DYN which stood for Dynasty which some of you may know and like the game Dynasty Warriors and the 3 kingdoms well there was 3 dukes in DYN and the dukes kind of resembled the Kingdoms and hence why DYN was born. I was then revoked as duke for being immature which I highly regret because it was the one thing I was truly good at.

Q: Refresh our memories about what happened to DYN?

DYN was a part of a triple alliance in the North East which included DYN, AD! HARD* before HARD* was formed from the –D- breakaways DYN/AD! Alliance was so strong it was about as strong as the CANDY/XLR alliance (not exaggerated) well anyway HARD* were formed and immediately and by this time we lost one of the 3 dukes Huw Solo had to go because his Wife became pregnant so it was two dukes the other duke who replaced me was bl16ues and the tribe was starting to hit the inactive side, we also had threats from Signos but by the time PANDAS was formed Signos was gone and merged with AD! To form ARSE but they were far too inactive to hold their own against OFA F. But DYN merged with HARD* to created PANDAS the rest were nobled off and we made a record on w19 (I Think) nobling 100 villages a day for a week and was soon to become a major power in the world under the leadership of JeffDS77 (HARD* Duke) & unjustified (DYN Duke) which was a amazing experience to be guided under them.
Q: You’ve recently left Pandas to join Candy. That’s quite a journey! Why join a tribe several k’s away?

Erm tricky question, well you know when you see a tribe on a world you join and they’re one of the most skilled and publicly loved tribes and you want in but you’re not showing the skill to become one well I thought this was the last chance I had to save my Tribalwars career so I asked Abi one last time if I could join and she accepted much to my delight.

Q: Was your departure from Pandas a friendly one?

Well it wasn’t friendly I automatically had a hit on my head and claims on me were already up and attacks were promised but fortunately for me Ieuan (Petn) is the best diplomat ever and sorted it out so I only lost a proportion of my villages so it wasn’t that friendly but it turned out ok.

Q: How is life now that you’re rolling in the Candy Van?

Hard work. It’s better to face off against a worthier opponent than Wolf also a great atmosphere on Skype when everyone’s on =)

Q: Freebie — anything else you want to say to w19?

Nothing more to say, But hope you enjoy the read.

Blog Question

Last Week’s Question: If you got hired on TW’s creative team and were assigned to create a new unit for the game, what would it be and why?

Not a unit per se but an interesting twist and totally suitable for this game. I am sure you have seen the movie Braveheart, 1 of my all-time favorites. The scene where they attack the castle and hot oil is spilled on them from the top of the Walls. Perhaps some sort of feature like that would be fun. Call it silly but you did say “creative”

This week’s Question: The opening of w49 has generated a lot of hype on the public forums, and I was pretty excited to see the settings myself. What are the settings you can’t play without? What settings do you dislike? What are the settings for your ideal world?

Please submit some answers guys, you can answer any or all of the questions!

Until next week =)

w19 News and World Update

April 6, 2010 in World 019 News

Hello w19! I hope the past week has found you well. Aside from a couple events of interest (that I will get to later), it has been a fairly quiet week on w19. Between the triple whammy of 6.0 updates, premium increases, and an April Fool’s joke, however, the TW forums have been on fire the last few days =D

First, the maps!

So, the obvious big change since last week is in the Northeast!  Pandas as we know it is gone, and there are some new tribes in the area, EPIC and TNT.  Lots of changes are still going on, hopefully we can get some feedback from the players in the northeast as things mellow out and settle down =)

Tribes Out:

So when you take a look at the new maps and the recent power rankings, the breakup of Pandas in the NE is really quite interesting.  It further solidifies Asylum’s powerhouse status, because the only “tribe” even close to them in size is the Brains family–Brains and Brainz added together. With Outfit disassociating themselves from Bonded as much as possible, you can’t really add Bonded to Outfit’s numbers.  It will be interesting to see if this has any practical effect on world politics, because in all honesty, Pandas was formed late in 2009 and had only been around for a few months and one major war (compared to some other major tribes that have been around over a year or more).  There are still a lot of players shifting around as the post-Pandas landscape settles and a couple new tribes have popped up, EPIC and TNT.  I also wonder if Wolf will take advantage of the opportunity while it’s fresh!

**A note on this week’s power rankings: I’m a day late, so Persempai’s rankings are spankin’ new today, but you should check the forum thread and see an intermediary rankings update to see some of the changes since the breakup of Pandas.

Weekly Interview:

This week’s interview is with the one and only Yarnie! Here you go w19, nom nom:

Q:  Introduce yourself to us =)
A: Hello, I am Yarnie. Real name is Andrew, and I will not share my last name..though most know that my ingame name comes from my last name. I am a student, and also just got a part time job at a gas station making pizza at night. Umm…I like airsoft/paintball, playing guitar, riding my three wheeler or any other off road vehicle, and of course playing the game we all love =)
Q: How long have you been playing TW? w19?
A: I have been playing TW for about 3-4 years. It is a funny story how I was introduced as well. I was playing PS2 with a group of buddies quite a bit, every Friday and usually on Wednesdays as well. One of them used the name “PFC Sims” for the games. Well, I got an email which was apparently a verification, it had that name and a password for world 2. I checked it out and it seemed alright, I asked him about it and he had no clue how it got there. I then created my own account (it is wierd, because i was still able to use the same email address) and joined W9..not long after I got a lot of my RL buddies to join, and he took his account and joined as well. Well, a few years down the road here I am =) Only one of my buddies still plays seriously, but two others play on newer worlds just to kill time.

Q: What other worlds do you currently play/have you previously played?
A: Wow, I do not even remember all of them. I have played a few worlds seriously though. I played w17 and 19 seriously, I also played worlds 30, 32, 35, 41 for a short time. I took an account on w9 and world 3, but did not stay long. Currently I play world 47 as Yarnie, W4 as hecat, W17 as Chiefeng, and W19 in a CANDY account.

Q: What is your favorite aspect of TribalWars? Least favorite?
A: I like the strategy, and the people I meet (for the most part). It gives me something to do, and I have always loved strategy games. I dislike the time consuming aspect, I want my life back =(

Q: What do you think of the v6.0 updates?
A: I like them, though I did not like having to fix all my Slowtarget scripts…Hopefully I wont have to fix that again. I am wondering how this new 50ms rule is going to work. It shouldn’t effect me much, as the tribe we are at war with at this time doesn’t seem to be able, or like, to snipe.

Q: What do you think of the rule updates, changes in the premium points, and price increases?
A: I do not mind the rule updates, if anything it helps make sure we dont get banned for making a simple mistake. The premium increase and changes occuring at the same time though is making it difficult to understand. From what I understand it is not going to be that much more, as it is simply adding the no adds mode in with the regular premium, that seems to explain the price raise for me.

Q: You formed the tribe MAGI, correct? What happened to Magi? Was Magyar affiliated with Magi?
A: I helped form MAGI. Gargoyle was the one who created it, under the name Alburz. My part was inviting them to TWE@, which became MAGI. I was the third person to be in charge of TWE@, Gargoyle and diamondman were the two before me. They both quit, as well as many of the other solid members. I think there are only six who remain from TWE@. thebigbull100, Maillot, lukes03, sanendmum, hybrid69, and myself. After they left, Xyza Kryztal was placed in charge of the family, and it became what is commonly known as a “huggle fest”. Somehow, I am not sure the exact story, Haploid ended up in TWE from the *NS* family to the north, and along with Gargoyle, the two were the only ones to give Signos any real fight. They both, to my understanding, had other opportunities (I will not state them out of respect), but they chose to return to TWE@ with the solid players, and break away from the family. Signos chose to give us a ceasefire, and shortly after TWE split up. Magyar, O F A, and Fsoul all were parts of the split. I will end it there for now, though if you wish to know more feel free to skype me. And no, magyar was seprate..they were simply an alliance due to the friendship between Whynot42 and the three dukes in MAGI (Gargoyle, Haploid, and myself).

Q: Following the OFA/AFO split, you moved to the Origin side of things. You subsequently received attacks from Virtus. Were other members of Origin being attacked by Virtus, or was it just you?
A: I joined CB after there was a ceasefire, and shortly after I explained to SilentJorge why I had left, and he returned full time to try and rebuild the O F A family (he was trying to subtract tribes not add, as the new leaders were doing). He was stripped of privies, and founded ORIGIN. After CB fell, I was offered a spot in ORIGIN, and accepted it, as I had friends there (marv, Haploid’s new owner, thebigbull100, and a few others). As far as I know I was the only one to be attacked by Virtus. I was being pounded pretty hard at the time I joined, but that shortly ended. I then received incoming when I tried to do my part in the war against CANDY, and was forced to void claims and move on to another area, where I also had problems with VIRTUS. After this a few of them were giving me regular incomings. I stopped telling SJ as I quickly realized that little would be done.

Q: Why did you leave Origin to join Candy?
A: I was tired of not being able to fight back, the game was starting to bore me, and most of my friends are in XLR or CANDY. Not to mention that sly had been giving me a hard time for not doing so sooner, lol. Many in CANDY were pushing me to join, and Atlantia informed me, while we were chatting about graand’s issue, that I could take an account. I told her I would think about it, and it did not take me long to decide exactly what I wanted to do. I informed a few of my friends in ORIGIN, made sure it was ok with them, and left.

Q: How is the war different for you personally now that you’re on the other side?
A: I actually have motivation to do something, I am enjoying myself for the most part, and being in a tribe of people who appreciate me. It is also fun to kill the nobles of the people who constantly bragged about how awesome they were at this game. It is nice knowing that people will not scatter at the first sign of a little squabble, and I do not receive flak for making my suggestions, no matter how much the leadership does not agree with it.

Q: Freebie — anything else you want to say to w19, suggestions/questions, etc.
A: Sorry for the long posts, hope you enjoyed the read. I do not intend any of that to be insulting, or to flame anyone, I am simply stating the facts that I know. I think the blog is going well, especially since the PnP is a bit slow right now. On a final note, anyone who wants to know more feel free to message me on skype, my name there is yarnie4.

Blog Question:

Last week’s question: What do you think makes a good tribe leader?

There are a lot of things that making a good tribe leader. Every tribe is different and has their own personality, a tribe leader must know the personality of their tribe and members and be able to shape their leadership style to reflect this. Doing this creates, gains, and keeps the respect of their members which one of the most important things that goes into making a tribe leader; Gaining and keeping the respect of their members.

Gaining respect of members, this sounds like a easy thing to do, in principle it is, what is more difficult is keeping respect of members. Over time leadership can drain someone, after all they are people too and have lives outside the game (something that is often forgotten) Someone who initially was a great leader, had the respect of their members can lose it over time. For myself, some things I’ve seen from leaders in the past (and present) that gain my respect are: Leader who is around and available to the all members of the tribe. Leader who is active. Leader who openly participates in tribe ops. Leader who checks in with the tribe about things periodically. Leader who keeps the tribe updated on events (even if there is no “new” information). Leader who recognizes, and acknowledges contributions of individual members, and lets that member know.

Contrast this to some qualities, that in my experience lost my respect. Leaders who constantly are off on their own, and never seem to be around to the majority of the tribe, and are generally not approachable; Leaders who play favourites within the tribe, not because that player may of put more effort into the tribe, but simply because the leader knows the player in real-life, and/or “likes” them vs another player who puts in same or more effort into the tribe. (Eg. gifting inactive villages and/or barbs to their “friends” because they have the packets and they are friends but failing to take into consideration that said person may have not done that much in the current war operations); Leader who fails to tell useful, and needed information to the tribe, and/or lies to tribe members. (Eg. Omitting information when cease-fire between their tribe and another is given. Saying one version of things, then saying the complete opposite not even a day later); Leader failing to follow through with tribe plans, after they have been announced (e.g. Saying that there will be an op on x player in near future, yet never actually performing the op at all, or saying war will be declared and started at x time then gets delayed over a week); Leader only being around to announce, a new change then going off and hiding again (e.g. Inviting a bunch of new members, then disappearing into hiding again).
There are also several other qualities that make a good leader than just gaining respect for their members, but for myself that is one of the most important things that makes a good leader.

w19 News and World Update

March 29, 2010 in World 019 News

Hi w19! Hope you are all well this week.  I have no major news to report aside from the usual flame games going on in the public forums =) But let’s still have us a look at the maps and power rankings for good measure:

I included the nobling map for a change of pace…If you look at where the popup dots are, it essentially follows the current wars…but I would like to point out the bright aqua of Wolf nobling in the NE rim! I got excited too, but it is just a misleading product of a 24-hour nobling map…Pandas are still nibbling away at Wolf at a decent rate =p I think it’s also interesting to note that there’s not really any nobling going on in the core-core…you have to move out a few k’s in any direction from the center of the map to see any action occurring.  This is a big change from the action 6-9 months ago! On we go then.

Power Rankings (thank you Persempai):

Major Powers (10+%)
ASYLUM 307,224,493   11.93%   -34,793,959 -1.35%

BRAINS 240,621,023   9.34%   16,345,795 0.64%

HEROES 38,996,049   1.51% 10,184,702 0.40%

Pandas has officially moved into Major Power Status! Not much of a surprise there, but it’s nice to see that ranking officially hit.  Also, OutFit is not that far off from making this distinction as well, but it would take a big push against XLR in the the north and/or against Asylum in the south.  I also think it’s interesting to note that Asylum’s loss for the week is mostly composed of individual players that left (that would be a hell of a lot of conquers lol).

This week’s interview!

Yes, we are back on track for weekly interviews!  (If you would like an interview, contact me ingame or via forum mail and we’ll get one set up)  This week’s interview is with seven.dj, the duke of NIR.

Q:  Introduce yourself to us =)

My name is Sergio. I am a 18 years old. I enjoy playing paintball, video gaming, and hanging out with friends when I’m not on triblawars (which isn’t that much time..) I love final fantasy and all that stuff. I also enjoy hot food (spicy). I am the duke of NIR.

Q: How long have you been playing TW? How long have you been playing w19?

I’ve been playing tribal wars for around three years now. I’ve been playing world 19 for about a year and a half or so.

Q: What is your favorite aspect of TribalWars? Least favorite?
My favorite aspect of tribal wars are the wars.. I enjoy what the wars involve. They involve coordination, team work, strategy, tactics, and other such actions. The wars really separate the ‘men from the boys‘ in this game, so to speak. My least favorite aspect of tribal wars would be the drama. I wish people would just drop all the bull and play the game in a respectable manner. There are a very limited number of players on tribal wars who don’t cause drama and play the game respectably. I wish there were more.

Q: Describe your leadership style.

I am a bit of a dictator.. I don’t have councils and I typically hold a very small aristocracy. I can get very hands-on when I choose to, but for the most part I let people do what they want unless I see something that’s not being done right or if I can’t do anything about it. I try and involve myself in all op planning’s and I strive to make them perfect, as I am a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to strategy and executing that strategy in this game. I learned a lot from my world 5 leader, Nyxx, who leads PKs there. He has been my leader for years.

I try not to express anger at my members and I help make them feel comfortable, unless they really do something stupid or irk me.

Q: What is your opinion of the updates in v6.0?

I don’t like the trophy system. I feel that it’s just another inaccurate way to represent one’s skill. However, I do like the fact that you can toggle it off.I think the mobile version is flawed. It’s designed specifically for the iPhone.. Try using it on a blackberry, it doesn’t allow you to access the settings or anything like that. The noble planner is GREAT. Best thing to happen to tribal wars in a while. Those are the only things I really cared about.

Q: What is a war that you would like to see happen in w19 (tell us why too)?

There are some great wars in w19 happening right now. If I was to pick two sides and pretend they’re right next to each other, I’d say Panda vs. EP (1v1). It would be an interesting war. The reason is quite selfish.. I know people from both tribes and I would want to see how well they do against each other. My prediction would be a victory for Pandas.

Q: NIR has been fighting with Brains F. as long as I can remember. How is that going for NIR?

Well, it hasn’t been going well, that’s for sure. It’s definitely not as bad as it should be, though. We had a lot of inactive accounts in our tribe that bordered BRAINS during the beginning and recent times of the war, which made it very easy for BRAINS to noble. This was one major drawback in the war for us. We’ve made small gains here and there over the past weeks, but nothing significant. I’ll have to give BRAINS credit for taking advantage of that situation though.

Q: There has been some talk about NIR in the public forums on the BBC war thread…The common phrase “The enemy of my enemy is my friend” comes to mind =D Has the BBC vs. Asylum war changed things for NIR? In what way?

We’ve had less incomings and have been able to make more gains over the past few weeks because of the wars, where as before it was disappointing losses after disappointing losses. We’re able to put together and execute strategy more efficiently than before the war.ASYLUM and NIR have always had a descent relationship from what I can recall.

Thank you Sergio =) I am always looking for new interviewees, so drop me a line anytime.

Blog Question

Last week’s question: Who do you think is an unforgettable or irreplaceable w19 personality and why? (( and still accepting comments on the v6.0 updates too =P))

I think the new version of TW is excellent. Have not experienced any problems with it and the internal Noble Planner was better than I expected. As for “unforgettable personalities” I think this is pretty easy although he has not posted in a while but that award goes to pam nam (drattuts) in my eyes. Do I really need to cite a reason?

-Answer submitted by Vilja, one of w19’s unforgettable personalities herself ;D

I’d have to say this new update is pretty crappy, I’ve had to update all my scripts which is a complete pain in the ass. That noble planner is ok but the SOS support request is crap, it’s way too messy.

-Answer submitted by Mark-CFC

This week’s question: What do you think makes a good tribe leader? (answer with details!)

Until next week w19!
